Women's tennis breezes past competition Saturday

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons and Schreiner proved to be no test for the Pirates as SU won a pair of matches 9-0 at home Saturday.

SOUTHWESTERN 9 - HARDIN-SIMMONS 0

The chill in the air could not cool off the hot play of the Pirates. Hardin-Simmons gave Southwestern a run for their money in doubles play, but the Pirates emerged with the wins. Mary Cardone and Anna Schneeman made quick work of Ellison/Kendall at #1 doubles, 8-2. Esther Bowers and Julie Swets took down Mobley/Hammond 8-5 and Nicole Wilson and Maranda Kahl outlasted Doege/Lopez at #3 doubles 8-6.

Cardone (#1), Schneeman (#3) and Bowers (#4) quickly secured the win as all three won their singles matches in straight-sets 6-2, 6-2.

SOUTHWESTERN 9 - SCHREINER 0

The Pirates only got stronger as the day went on. Cardone/Schneeman were never tested as they won their #1 doubles match 8-1. Swets/Bowers again won 8-5 at #2 doubles and Wilson/Kahl dominated Des Los Santos/Daniel at #3 doubles 8-2.

Southwestern did not allow more then two game wins in all singles matches as they quickly closed the match. Cardone (#1) defeated Smith 6-2, 6-1 while Drews-Jones easily handled Sterling 6-0, 6-1.
