Men's tennis sweeps Saturday home action

A tough Saturday lineup was no match for the even stronger Pirates as Southwestern swept home matches, defeating University of the Southwest 7-2 and Mary Hardin-Baylor 8-1.

The morning brought an athletic University of the Southwest team. Southwestern won all three doubles matches. Niko Snovely and Grant Gideon took down Alfaro/Castro in #1 doubles 8-4, William Ellis/Rod Khansari were in a battle in #2 doubles, but defeated Diaz/Rendon 9-8. Sam McCready and Oliver Farmen teamed up to take down Mohan/Mizera 8-4 in #3.

In singles play, Snovely made quick work of Mizera in #1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-0. Ayinde Hall fell in #2 7-5, 6-2 to Castro, but Farmen easily handled Alfaro 6-3, 6-1 at the #3 spot.

Grant Gideon was edged out 6-4. 5-7, 10-6 in #4 singles, while Neik Khansari and Sam McCready closed out the win with wins in #5 and #6 singles, 6-1, 6-3 and 4-6, ret.

Mary Hardin-Baylor took the court in the afternoon to try to knock Southwestern off their winning ways, but SU would have none of it, winning all three doubles matches. Snovely/Gideon won 8-2, Ellis/Rod Khansari 8-6 and Farmen/McCready 8-4.

Southwestern won all but one singles match despite multiple tie breaker sets. Snovely had full control the entire match to win 6-2, 6-1 over Wilding. Hall won his first set 7-5, but was narrowly defeated 6-4, 10-5 to fall in #2 singles. Farmen needed a tie breaker set as well and emerged with the win 6-3, 3-6, 10-8. Gideon took down Thompson 7 (2)- 6, 7(1)-6. Neik Khansari made quick work of Martin 6-0, 6-2 and Ellis finished off the Cru with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Ogo.
