Pirates Close Strong Regular Season, Turn Focus to SAA Tournament Run

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Pirates men's tennis team wrapped up a strong regular season on Sunday afternoon, competing hard in a 1–6 result against Trinity University in a matchup that carried major implications for SAA Tournament seeding.

Despite the final score, the Pirates showcased resilience and depth throughout the lineup, closing the regular season with an impressive 15–5 overall record and a 5–2 mark in conference play.

Southwestern was competitive across all three doubles courts, pushing Trinity in each matchup. At No. 1 doubles, Christo Langford and Joseph Snyman battled in a tight contest before falling 4–6. The No. 2 duo of Bernie Clemente and Parth Patel fought into a tiebreak, narrowly dropping the match 6–7 (3–7). At No. 3, Ashton Ellis and Landon Sosebee delivered another strong performance, also forcing a tiebreak before falling 6–7 (4–7), as the Pirates showed grit in closely contested play.

The Pirates continued to compete with determination in singles action, highlighted by a dominant performance from Parth Patel at No. 4. Patel earned Southwestern's point with a convincing 6–2, 6–1 victory, showcasing control from start to finish.

Several other courts featured hard-fought battles. Ashton Ellis delivered one of the most exciting matches of the day at No. 3 singles, bouncing back after dropping the first set to win the second 6–1 and force a super tiebreak. Ellis pushed the match to the limit before narrowly falling 10–12.

At No. 5 singles, Nolan Alvarez showed resilience by rallying to take the second set 6–4 and force a decisive tiebreak, while Bernie Clemente and Porter Arens faced tough competition at the top of the lineup. Hai Vo continued to battle at No. 6, competing through each point.

  • With momentum from a successful regular season, the Pirates now shift their focus to postseason play. Southwestern will take on Oglethorpe University in the opening round of the SAA Tournament on Friday, April 24th at 9:00 AM in Memphis, Tennessee, looking to make a strong run.
