Pirates hold off Texas Lutheran for 6-3 win

GEORGETOWN – The Southwestern University women's team continued its winning ways with a 6-3 win over Texas Lutheran Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates improved to 6-2 on the season as the Bulldogs pushed Southwestern at the top of the lineup.

The bottom of the Pirate lineup earned wins in singles action to help seal the win as Marieke Visser and Heba Abdel took wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Virginia Stofer also earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles to improve to 6-2 on the year.

Stoger and Gabby Hunt also teamed at No. 2 doubles to earn a 8-4 win before Abdel and Visser gave the Pirates the early 2-0 lead.

Visser and Abdel won their fifth match of the season, 8-1 at the No. 3 doubles position.

Southwestern hits the road for the final time in 2014 at Mary Hardin-Baylor next Friday. The Pirates and Crusaders are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
