WACO, Texas - The Southwestern men's tennis team opened the 2011 fall season on a high note, winning five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches to defeat Austin College 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Alex Lam was strong in the #1 slot, defeating Roush in two sets 6-4, 7-6. Alexander Reinsch easily handled Taran in #2 singles, 6-2, 6-2 while Dax Collison was nearly untouchable in his first collegiate match, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Taylor in #3 singles.
Alec Bergerson took down Bengston in #4 singles 6-3, 6-3 and first-year Jonathan Sandoval came out red hot in his collegiate debut to beat Gander 6-0, 6-3 in the #5 slot. Anthony Pritchett fell to Kinda in #6 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles action, the duo of Lam Reinsch in #1 singles were unstopable as they dominated Roush/Taran in #1 doubles 8-1. Collison/Sandoval teamed up to win the second doubles match for the Pirates 8-3 in the second spot while Bergerson/Alleyn fell to Kunda/Gander 8-3 in #3 doubles.
The head-to-head match was a warm-up for the Pirates' next competition at the ITA Regional Tournament in San Antonio on September 30th.
