ABILENE, Texas - The Pirate men's tennis team fell to McMurry
University 9-0 in Friday's match to drop to 1-5 on the season.
Southwestern was unable to win a doubles match, setting the tone
for the rest of the day. D'Art Bebel and Alexander Reinsch had the
best shot an an upset as they fell 8-6 to Olivares/Cockrill in the
#2 doubles slot.
Alex Lam and Charles Prince fell 8-3 to Rainwater/Davis at #1
doubles while Andrew Olsson and Riley Bunnell were defeated by
Abilez/Williams 8-2.
As singles matches got underway Lam started off with a bang,
taking the first set 6-3 in #1 singles. He eventually fell to Davis
after a tough second set and tie breaker 5-7, 10-8.
Reinsch was beat by Rainwater 6-4, 6-1 and Bebel dropped his
contest to Olivares 6-0, 6-2. Prince put up a solid fight in #4
singles but eventually was defeated by Williams 6-4, 6-3.
Clarage lost to Abilez 6-3, 6-2 and Olsson fell to Cockrill 6-2,
6-1 to round out the Pirate match-ups.
Southwestern will host their first home meet when they return
from Spring Break. Mary Hardin-Baylor will take on the Pirates on
March 25th at 3pm.
