GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Pirates hosted their first home meet of
the season as the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor came to town on
Thursday afternoon. Southwestern fell 3-6 in the dual meet to move
to 1-6 on the season.
Southwestern opened up the contest with doubles action, dropping
two of the three matches to start the day. D'Art Bebel and
Alexander Reinsch lost to Pownall/White 8-2 in the first flight,
Alex Lam and Charles Prince bested Aguirre/Graham 8-6 in the #2
slot and Andrew Olsson and Riley Bunnell fell to Summers/Hallum 8-2
in the third.
Singles matches started off strong for the Pirates as Lam took
the momentum he accrued during his doubles match into his singles
action, winning easily over Aguirre 6-2, 6-2. Reinsch couldn't find
his rhythm as he fell 6-2, 6-0 in the second flight to Pownall.
Prince narrowly fell 6-4 in the first set of flight three action
and was unable to continue to mount points, ultimately falling 6-4,
6-0 to Summers. In flight four, Bebel dropped his opening set 3-6
but rebounded to take the final two of the match, 6-3, 6-3 over
White.
Andrew Clarage and Olsson fought tirelessly in their final
singles matches, each forcing a third game after losing in the
opening set 6-2. Clarage took the second set 5-7 over Pekar but
fell 6-3 in the third while Olsson won set two 2-6 and then lost
6-0 in the third.
The Pirates stay at home this weekend as they open up SCAC
conference action, hosting Trinty and Austin College on Saturday
and Hendrix on Sunday.
