The Southwestern men's tennis team played well over the weekend,
narrowly falling to Texas Lutheran on Friday 5-4 and then defeating
Schreiner on Saturday 7-2.
SU 4, TLU 5
Doubles actions showed how closely contested the day would be as
the Pirates narrowly took control early by winning two of the three
doubles matches. D'Art Bebel and Alexander Reinsch defeated
Conn/Allen 8-6 and Andrew Olsson and Riley Bunnell defeated
Schenk/Packard 8-5. Hartwell/Moellering edged out Chrales Prince
and Andrew Clarage 8-5 to keep SU from sweeping doubles action.
Bebel used the momentum he gained in doubles to win his singles
match by outlasting Conn 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-2). Reinsch was bested
by Hartwell 6-2, 6-1.
Prince easily handled Allen 6-1, 6-2 for the only other Pirate
win in singles. Moellering defeated Clarage 6-3, 6-4, Delcambre
beat Olsson 6-1, 6-1 and Schneider defeated Bunnell 6-0, 6-1.
SU 7, SU 2
On Saturday Southwestern responded to the narrow loss by easily
handling Schreiner 7-2. Lam/Prince had the toughest doubles
match-up as they faced Jackson/Streeter and narrowly won 9-8 (7-4).
Bebel/Reinsch won over Wells/Franklin 8-1 while Olsson/Bunnell fell
to Hernandez/Manchester 8-2.
SU won all but one of their singles matches. Lam started things
off with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Jackson. Reinsch followed with a win
over Streeter 6-3, 7-5 while Prince beat Hernandez 7-5, 4-6 (10-3).
Bebel controlled his single match over Manchester, winning 6-1,
6-1 as did Clarage who beat Wells 6-2, 6-1. Olsson fell in his
singles match 6-4, 6-1 to McClintock.
The Pirates continue action on Friday at LeTourneau and then
head to UT-Tyler on Saturday.
