Pirates Power Past Berry 4–0 Amid Weather Challenges

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's tennis team battled through challenging weather conditions on Saturday, as their match against Berry College was adjusted in both time and location before play moved indoors. Despite the disruptions, the Pirates delivered a strong performance, securing a 4–0 victory to improve to 2–1 in SAA conference play.

Southwestern took control early by winning the doubles point, claiming two of the three courts. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke earned a hard-fought 7–5 win over S. Mejia and C. Hanson. Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan added another point at No. 3 doubles with a 6–3 victory against S. Coppola and C. Eidson. Berry's lone doubles win came at No. 2, where P. Evans and M. Cox defeated Lilly Perkins and Katia Childs, 6–2.

In singles play, the Pirates continued their momentum, picking up three straight-set victories to clinch the match. Cepeda secured the win at No. 1 singles with a 7–5, 6–4 decision over S. Mejia. Locke followed with a dominant 6–2, 6–2 victory against M. Cox at No. 2, and Duncan sealed the match at No. 3 with a convincing 6–1, 6–2 win over C. Hanson.

The remaining matches went unfinished after the team result was decided. At No. 4 singles, P. Evans led Perkins 6–2, 2–1. At No. 5, Childs held a 3–0 advantage over C. Eidson, while Powell's match against S. Coppola at No. 6 was also in progress.

With the win, the Pirates move to 2–1 in SAA play and continue to build momentum heading deeper into conference competition.
