GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Berry College on Saturday, improving to 2-1 in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play.
The Pirates set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Joseph Snyman and Christo Langford led the way at No. 1 doubles with a 6-2 victory over J. Chapman and A. Benoualid. At No. 3, Landon Sosobee and Ashton Ellis dominated their matchup, defeating L. Nedkov and A. Lambert 6-0. Berry picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, where Parth Patel and Bernie Clemente fell to X. Deckard and J. Goode, 3-4, but Southwestern still carried a 1-0 lead into singles play.
In singles action, the Pirates quickly took control with three strong straight-set wins. Porter Arens delivered a commanding performance at No. 2 singles, defeating A. Benoualid 6-3, 6-0. Ashton Ellis followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over J. Goode at No. 3, while Parth Patel secured the ?????ing point at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against L. Nedkov.
Berry's lone point came at No. 1 singles, where Bernie Clemente dropped a hard-fought match to J. Chapman, 5-7, 5-7.
Matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles were left unfinished after the Pirates clinched the team victory. Hai Vo was competing against A. Lambert at No. 5, while Rylan Hastings was in action at No. 6.
With the win, Southwestern improves to 2-1 in SAA play as they continue conference competition.
