Maskey Earns Podium Finish as Pirates Hold Fifth After Day Three of SAA Championships

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up day three of competition Friday at the SAA Championships, hosted by Centre College in Danville, posting multiple championship-final appearances and strong relay performances to remain fifth overall with 256 points.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS – TOP FINISHES 

  • The Pirates opened the evening with a podium performance in the 100 Yard Butterfly, where sophomore Niva Maskey earned a third-place finish in the A final with a time of 58.97, collecting 16 team points. 

  • Junior Jaclyn Vargas added a 13th-place finish in 1:00.99, while freshman Victoria Crews followed in 15th at 1:02.75 in the 100 Yard Butterfly

  • In the 400 Yard Individual Medley, freshman Sarah Wallen advanced to the A final and finished seventh overall in 4:42.23. Junior Elaine Bentley contributed additional points with a 15th-place B-final performance in 4:53.49.

  • Southwestern continued to score in the 200 Yard Freestyle, as senior Elizabeth Krajca placed seventh in the championship final with a time of 1:56.50. Sophomore Mallory DeArmond added a 14th-place finish in 1:59.76.

  • The Pirates added depth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, led by freshman Amber Chien's 10th-place finish in 1:09.35. Freshman Cece Sullivan placed 14th in 1:10.16, and Vargas secured 16th in 1:13.15.

  • In the 100 Yard Backstroke, Crews finished 11th overall in 1:01.64, while sophomore Anna Kate Goodson placed 15th in 1:04.61.

  • Southwestern closed the night with solid relay results in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. The A relay of Maskey, Chien, Vargas, and Sullivan earned a fifth-place finish in 4:03.68, while the B relay squad of Crews, Wallen, freshman Kylie Richeson, and freshman Ava Goodwill placed 13th in 4:10.74.

MEET NOTES 

  • Maskey earned a podium finish in the 100 Butterfly A final.

  • Southwestern advanced swimmers to A finals in the 100 Butterfly, 400 IM, and 200 Freestyle.

  • The Pirates recorded scoring swims across five individual events and both medley relays.

  • Southwestern sits fifth overall with 256 team points through Event 116.

  • The Pirates return to the pool Saturday for the final day of competition at the SAA Championships.
