Men's Golf Places Second at Texas Tri-Match

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's Golf opened up the 2025 season at the Texas Tri-Match held in Whitney, Texas at White Bluff Resort's Old Course on Monday & Tuesday September 8th-9th. The Texas Tri-Match consisted of three schools RV University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, #11 Trinity University & #18 Southwestern University. The Pirates 'A Team' finished the match with a second place finish, where they shot team scores of 294, 292, & 285 for a total of 871 (+7), and the Pirates 'B Team' finished in fifth place shooting scores of 308, 307 & 310 for a tournament total of 925 (+61). 

The Pirates 'A Team'  was led by junior Sam McClure who fired rounds of 73, 70, & 70 (-3) where he finished in T2nd place. Behind him with a 4th place finish was freshman Carson Elder who shot rounds of 71, 73, & 71 (-1). Next in 9th place was sophomore William Suell who finished with rounds of 73, 76, & 70 (+3) after him was senior Ethan Bridges who shot 77, 74, & 76 (+11) putting him in 18th place. Finishing in 19th place and rounding out the Pirates was freshman Jack Barber with rounds of 79, 75, & 74 (+12).

The Pirates 'B Team' was led by freshman Luca Heo who finished the tournament in 16th place with rounds of 74, 72, & 80 (+10). Following him in T21st was sophomore Ethan Law who turned in rounds of 75, 79, & 76 (+14). Tied with him in T21st was junior Ricky Mitchell who carded rounds of 79, 75, & 76 (+14). Next in 25th place was sophomore Tyler Rosson who finished with rounds of 80, 81, & 78 (+23). Junior Logan Cameron shot 83, 86, & 81 (+34) putting him in 28th place. Playing as an individual was senior Santiago Cuevas Gonzalez who finished in 29th place after shooting rounds of 86, 84, & 90 (+44). 

Southwestern men collected a total of one hundred and sixty-six pars, while also collecting forty-four birdies. The Pirates finished in second within the field in par 3's playing them at 3.00 (E) for the tournament, they were also second in par 4's where they played them at 4.20 (+30).McClure led the field in par 3's playing them -4 which averages out to 2.67, he was also tied third for how he played the par 5's averaging 4.58 which was -5. Suell led the Pirates in pars racking up a total of forty for the tournament.
