Pirates Surge to Silver at Three-Day Trinity Showdown

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's swimming team delivered an outstanding performance at the Trinity Tiger Invitational, finishing 2nd out of 9 teams with 707.50 points, powered by 43 individual finals swims, 6 personal bests, and a collection of podium results that included four second-place and four third-place finishes.

The Pirates opened the meet with multiple top-eight results on day one, highlighted by strong swims in the 500 freestyle, 50 freestyle, and relay events, while advancing several athletes into the evening session to showcase the team's depth. Their momentum continued on day two with top-eight performances across the butterfly, IM, freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke events. Southwestern closed out the final day with another series of impressive efforts in the distance, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke races, adding several more top-eight finishes to complete a dominant weekend in San Antonio.

DAY #1 HIGHLIGHTS – TOP FINISHES 

  • 200 Yard Freestyle Relay – Southwestern's team of Sullivan, Krajca, Maskey, and DeArmond finished 2nd in 1:38.64. 

  • 500 Yard Freestyle – Elizabeth Krajca placed 2nd in 5:17.21, followed by DeArmond (3rd), Bolte (4th), and Chavez (6th), with Alt winning the B final to take 9th overall. 

  • 200 Yard IM – Bentley, Wallen, Richeson, and Chien all scored out of the B final. 

  • 50 Yard Freestyle – Cece Sullivan finished 2nd in 23.90, while Niva Maskey placed inside the top eight and Victoria Crews added a scoring swim from the B final. 

  • 400 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Maskey, Chien, Vargas, and Sullivan finished 4th in 4:03.24, with Southwestern's B and C relays also scoring. 

DAY #1 NOTES 

  • Southwestern placed four swimmers inside the top six of the 500 Free.

  • Sullivan recorded her second runner-up finish of the session.

  • Maskey added top-eight points in the 50 Free and contributed key relay legs.

  • All three medley relay entries scored to close the night.

  • Multiple Pirates advanced into evening finals across opening-day events

DAY #2 HIGHLIGHTS - TOP FINISHES

  • 100 Yard Butterfly – Niva Maskey finished inside the top eight, while Vargas, Crews, and Richeson added additional scoring finishes. 

  • 400 Yard IM – Southwestern placed two swimmers inside the top eight. 

  • 200 Yard Freestyle – The Pirates earned two top-eight finishes in the event. 

  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Southwestern placed three swimmers inside the top eight to secure key points. 

  • 100 Yard Backstroke – Victoria Crews recorded a top-eight finish for the Pirates. 

  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – Southwestern's A relay posted a time of 1:52.69, with all three Pirate relay teams scoring in the event. 

DAY #2 NOTES

  • Maskey added a strong showing in the 100 Fly after placing top-eight in the 50 Free on Day 1. 

  • The Pirates earned two top-eight finishes in both the 400 IM and 200 Free.

  • The breaststroke group recorded three top-eight finishes in the 100 Breast.

  • Crews contributed a notable swim with her top-eight finish in the 100 Back. 

  • All three 200 Medley Relay squads produced scoring performances. 

DAY #3 HIGHLIGHTS - TOP FINISHES

  • 1650 Yard Freestyle – Southwestern placed two swimmers inside the top eight to open the final session. 

  • 200 Yard Breaststroke – The Pirates earned three top-eight finishes, adding significant scoring in the event. 

  • 200 Yard Butterfly – Southwestern posted three top-eight finishes, highlighted by strong swims from Vargas and Crews. 

  • 100 Yard Freestyle – The Pirates recorded two top-eight finishes, including a strong showing from Cece Sullivan. 

  • 200 Yard Backstroke – Southwestern added two top-eight finishes, with Victoria Crews contributing another standout performance. 

DAY #3 NOTES

  • Southwestern collected multiple top-eight placements across every stroke group.

  • The breaststroke and butterfly events were among the strongest of the session with three top-eight finishes each.

  • Sullivan continued her meet with another top-eight freestyle finish.

  • Crews closed out the Invite with top-eight results in both backstroke events.

  • Depth in long-distance, sprint, and stroke events contributed consistent scoring throughout the day. 

UP NEXT 

  • The Pirates return to action on January 17th, hosting Trinity University at Walzel Natatorium in Georgetown.
