Pirates Make Waves: Southwestern Sinks the Celts in Thrilling Swim Meet

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Swimming opened their 2025–2026 season with a decisive win at home, defeating the University of St. Thomas 137–91 at Walzel Natatorium. The Pirates won 10 of 13 events, highlighted by multiple standout performances from veterans and underclassmen alike.

HIGHLIGHTS – FIRST PLACE FINISHES
  • 200 Yard Medley Relay – The team of Owen Rodrigue, Luke Lawhon, Tim Young, and Amani Singh opened the meet with a victory, clocking 1:39.80.
  • 200 Yard Freestyle – Andrew Renninger secured first with a time of 1:50.32, edging St. Thomas by less than two-tenths of a second.
  • 100 Yard Breaststroke – Luke Lawhon tied for first place at 1:02.66, splitting nearly even between his 50s.
  • 50 Yard Butterfly – Freshman Sebastian Cortinas won in 23.45, marking his first collegiate victory.
  • 100 Yard Freestyle – Tim Young led a 1–2–3 Pirate sweep, taking first with a 49.79 finish.
  • 50 Yard Backstroke – Owen Rodrigue earned the win in 28.90, keeping the momentum strong for Southwestern.
  • 50 Yard Breaststroke – Lawhon captured his second individual win with a 29.17.
  • 200 Yard IM – Renninger collected his second event victory, clocking 2:03.45.
  • 200 Yard Freestyle Relay – The team of Cortinas, Rodrigue, Singh, and Young capped the meet with a commanding finish at 1:30.03.
NOTES 
  • Southwestern finished 1–2–3 in the 100-yard freestyle with Young, Rodrigue, and McKinney.
  • Freshman Amani Singh contributed key splits in both relays.
  • The Pirates outscored the Celts in every relay event.
