TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS
-
In Flight A, six players represented us, with Daryl Locke seeded 9th and Isa Cepeda seeded 13th. Locke, Cepeda, Kimberly Duncan, and Katia Childs each advanced comfortably through their opening matches, setting a strong tone for the tournament.
-
Freshman Katia Childs delivered an impressive effort in the second round, pushing the 13th seed from HSU to the brink before falling in a hard-fought third-set tiebreaker. Kim Duncan shined with a dramatic upset over the 8th seed from Trinity, battling through a thrilling 12–10 third-set tiebreak. She continued her strong play before narrowly falling to the 9th seed, 7–5 in the third set.
-
Meanwhile, Isa Cepeda was dominant in the early rounds, dropping just two games through her first two matches. Her run ended in the Round of 16 against the 5th seed, but not before she showed the level of control and composure that will serve her well in the spring.
-
Unfortunately, Locke was forced to withdraw due to injury, sidelining her from both singles and doubles competition for the remainder of the weekend. We wish her a smooth and speedy recovery.
-
In Flight B, freshman Addison Powell, seeded 8th, put together a strong run of her own. She advanced to the quarterfinals, where she pushed the top seed to a third-set tiebreaker in a tightly contested match that highlighted her grit and potential.
