Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern men's lacrosse celebrates its three seniors with offensive fireworks on senior day, blowing out the Centenary Gentlemen 27-3 at home.
Seniors Jacob Hamilton and Zac Asbury provided much of the show, combining for eight goals and 10 assists in the win. Fellow senior Alberto Quinones had a goal and an assist with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
The Pirates played an almost flawless first half, holding Centenary scoreless while scoring 15 goals before the break. Asbury opened the game with an assist to Ben Libby for the game's first goal. Nick Doxey scored back-to-back goals with one off an assist from Hamilton, then found Asbury for his first goal.
After Jack Doloszycki scored, Asbury added his second, and Nick Doxey scored his hat trick with a man up and 5:31 remaining in the first quarter. Asbury ended the quarter with an assist to Hamilton, taking an 8-0 lead.
Hamilton and Asbury assisted on the first two goals in the second quarter, both to Doxey. Brady Middleton added an unassisted goal, then Hamilton scored two in a row before Justin Macha, and Middleton closed the half with scores for the 15-0 lead.
Centenary opened the second half with its first goal two minutes in, scoring a John Mark Waniewski unassisted goal with a man up. The Pirates answered with three in a row before Mark Waniewski provided another goal for Centenary.
Asbury scored a goal and assisted on another before Quinones closed the third with an unassisted score for the 21-2 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the quarter.
Southwestern scored six of the seven goals in the fourth, with Asbury scoring two and assisting on another to finish with five goals and six assists. Hamilton had three goals and four assists. Doxey had five goals and two assists.
The Pirates dominated possession thanks to Hudson Bearden, who set a school record with 30 face-offs won, beating Zane Abbott's record of 25. The Pirates finished with a 60-15 edge in ground balls, forcing 22 of Centenary's 33 turnovers to take a 67-10 advantage in shot attempts. Centenary goalie Thomas Siskron had 22 saves on 49 shots.
Southwestern improves to 5-4 with the win, dropping Centenary to 1-9. The Pirates will travel to Irving, Texas next weekend to face the University of Dallas on Sunday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m.
