GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern men's lacrosse was held to its lowest scoring output since the 2018 season, losing 20-5 to the longtime SCAC nemesis Colorado College Tigers in the season's home opener. 

Colorado College overwhelmed Southwestern with a high volume of shots, taking a 49-29 advantage with 36 on goal. Jacob Smith put the Tigers on the board in the first minute of action, scoring on Noah Beecher's feed. Tyler Santos answered with an unassisted goal at the 12:30 mark, but Colorado College went on a 10-0 run to take an 11-1 lead into the break. 

Southwestern opened the first half scoring three of the first four goals, getting a goal from Nick Doxey off a Zac Asbury assist, a goal from Matt Caldwell, and a score from Cody Foster after Colorado College's Beecher found the back of the net. The Tigers responded with another big run, scoring six consecutive goals, and eight of the last nine. 

Declan Maguire led the Tigers with four goals on four shots. Anders Erickson and Dylan Brown each finished with three goals. Five different Pirates accounted for each of their five goals, with Santos, Doxey, Caldwell, Foster, and Jack Carolan scoring. Zac Asbury finished with a pair of assists. Southwestern goalie Drew Alvarado finished with 16 saves. His counterpart, Ben Anastos, had seven. 

The Pirates had a slight edge in faceoffs, winning 16-of-27, led by Hudson Bearden's 13-for-20 performance. 

With the loss, Southwestern falls to 1-1 on the season, leaving Colorado College undefeated at 2-0. The Pirates will have a short turnaround, traveling to Centenary College tomorrow for a match at 1:00 p.m.
