Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Southwestern softball completed their four-game series against Schreiner picking up the final two wins to sweep the Mountaineers 4-0.
Starting the first game Saturday afternoon, the Mountaineers came off the plate hot and scored four runs in the first inning. Pirates made a pitcher change giving
Lindsey Longuet a break and
Nadia Netek took over and stopped the Mountaineers scoring streak. The Pirates were able to tie up the runs in the first with
Sydney Scott and
Celeste Silvas working together to gain two runs for the Pirates, followed by
Izzy Jack hitting two RBI's and making the game tied 4-4 at the bottom of the first.
With the Netek at the pitcher's mound, the Pirates kept the Mountaineers at bay until the 7th inning, only allowing three hits and forcing four strikeouts. This allowed the Pirates to score three more runs to end the first game 5-7.
In the last game, The Mountaineers once again scored early in the first and second innings, making a total of four runs. In the third inning, Southwestern was able to fill the bases allowing
Kaitlynn Copher to score the team's first run. With a huge hit from
Jordan Farber,
Katelyn Francis and
Katie Bricarell were able to score two more runs to make the game 3-4, Schreiner up. The Mountaineers answered back by scoring another run in the fourth inning, but both teams would be without scores in the fifth and sixth innings.
At the top of the seventh with Schreiner up two runs it looked to be the Mountaineers chance to win one game in the series. However, in the bottom of the seventh and with one out and two runners on the bases,
Tori Montemayor slugged one straight down the center giving Netek and Bricarell the room to score two runs to tie the game 5-5.
With Montemayor on third, Farber tried to score her in for the winning run but her hit was caught, now giving the Pirates their second out. Next up to bat
Kylie Nixon, a freshman from Cypress, Texas, made a hit to far left field to allow Montemayor to score the winning run to let the Pirates take the final game 6-5.
Softball improves 5-3 in the conference. Up next, the Pirates have a quick turn around to play a doubleheader against Transylvania College in Seguin, Texas.
