Schreiner hands Southwestern 70-63 setback on Friday night

KERRVILLE, Texas – Ryan Ogden scored a game-high 17 points, but it was not enough for the Southwestern University men's basketball team in a 70-63 setback against Schreiner Friday evening at the Schreiner Event Center.

Ogden hit a jumper with 14:31 remaining in the game, giving the Pirates (5-10, 2-2 SCAC) a 45-41 lead. However, the Mountaineers (7-7, 1-2 SCAC) scored six consecutive points to take a 47-45 lead.

After Nnamdi Akabogu tied the contest at 47-47 with 12:47 left, Schreiner used an 8-3 spurt over the next four minutes to reclaim the advantage.

The Mountaineers stretch their lead to 64-52 after Wes Miller knocked down a free throw with 5:14 remaining in the game.

Southwestern was able to pull within 66-61, but could not get closer in the final two minutes.

Schreiner ended the night by scoring four of the final six points.

Ogden, who also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, was joined in double figures by Karrey Sanders and Connor Kim with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Pirates, who were limited to a 37.3 percent from the field, will travel to San Antonio Saturday to square off with Trinity (5-9, 1-2 SCAC). Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
