GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Basketball has officially released the 2026-27 schedule heading into year two competing in the Southern Athletic Association. The Pirates schedule features 14 home games, including nine non-conference and 16 SAA games. 

The SAA expanded to nine teams with the addition of Maryville College in the offseason, as the SAA Conference Tournament will feature six teams. The Pirates made drastic improvements last season at 13-14, exceeding expectations making it to the SAA Tournament Semifinals in a stacked league. Southwestern ranked third in the nation in win improvements only behind the national champions and another tournament team. The Pirates made noise after being selected to finish last in the preseason poll, earning their first conference tournament win since 2015. Southwestern will likely receive more expectations this season, but the Pirates will have plenty to replace. However, the incoming class is stacked with talent from around the country. 

The Pirates lost 69% of the scoring from the 2025-26 squad, including their two All-SAA honorees. However, the Pirates have reloaded and also bring back key pieces such as Zach Gomez and Neo Franco. Having success also comes with losing some pivotal assistant coaches as the Pirates bring in three new leaders in Connor Byrne, Malcolm Canada, and Jackson Turner. Check out the full roster to learn more about the Pirates additions. 

We caught up with Head Coach Matt Streich who said, "We are looking forward to our second year in the SAA, with a better feel for the league and the style of play.  This season, we are excited to blend some key returners with veteran transfers who are proven producers at the college level. Our first year class has great potential and we are eager to watch them grow. Our roster is dynamic and diverse, including representation from 7 different states and 2 different countries." 

When asked about the schedule ahead, Streich explained, "We are thrilled to have 14 home games inside the Robertson Center, where we have great support from our fan base and our community. We expect to compete at a high level, and play an exciting brand of basketball that should be fun for the fans."
