Box Score IRVING, Texas - The Southwestern men's basketball team closed out their season with a 64-57 win over the University of Dallas Saturday night. They ended at 4-12 in the SCAC and missed the post season tournament by one game.
The teams paced themselves in the first half and Dallas was able to pull ahead by nine points, 20-11, but Southwestern battled back and trailed by six, 26-20, at the half.
Logan Hurley's jumper at the start of the second half sparked a 17-2 run that gave the Pirates a nine point lead with just over 13 minutes to play.
The Crusaders hung close but were never able to regain the lead as Southwestern made 3-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Southwestern shot an impressive 46.3% from the floor on the road and 66.7% from the free throw line while holding UD to 30% from the field, 10% from three point range. Nick Atiee led the offensive attack for the Pirates with 15 points while Michael Cantu was close behind with 14 points. Travis Kurtz led the Pirates on the boards with seven rebounds. Aaron Wyatt led the Crusaders with 13 points.
SU closes out the year at 4-21 overall, 4-12 in the SCAC. Three seniors, Hurley, Demetrice Spearman and James Davenport closed out their collegiate careers with the win.
