PINEVILLE, La. - Southwestern softball once again led the
majority of the game after posting one run in the top of the first,
but a three-run sixth inning rally by East Texas Baptist ended the
Pirate's phenomenal post season run. SU fell 3-1 to the Tigers just
one game before the Regional Championship.
Aly
Pulver and Blair Wallace
each started the game off with singles and they were moved into
scoring position by a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Katelyn Gola. With
two outs Kaitlyn
Pavlicek was able to drive in one run to give Southwestern an
early 1-0 lead that would last through five and a half innings.
Southwestern was unable to extend their lead as they stranded
seven runners throughout the game. ETBU slowly woke up as the game
went on and commenced with a three-run sixth inning that proved to
be the game winning inning for the Tigers.
The Pirates had seven hits and no errors to ETBU's five hits and
one error. Wallace, Pavlicek and Bre Lewis all had
multi-hit games.
Lyndsy
Maus, who has been sensational on the mound all-tournament for
Southwestern, garnered the loss. In seven innings she allowed five
hits, three runs (earned) while walking one and striking out
five.
Southwestern closes out their season with a 33-13 overall
record. With just one senior, Katelyn Gola, graduating from this
year's squad it bodes well for the future of Head Coach Angela
Froboese's program.
