JACKSON, Miss. - The Southwestern softball team allowed four
runs in the first two innings of both games on Sunday and were
unable to recover as they lost the final two games of the series,
3-4 and 1-7 to Millsaps College. Millsaps takes control of first
place in the West with the wins while Southwestern falls to 16-9
overall and 4-4 in the SCAC.
In game one the Majors scored one run in the first inning and
three in the second to take an early, commanding lead. Southwestern
responded with two runs of their own in the third, but could only
score one more through the duration of the game to fall 3-4.The
Pirates had more hits, nine to Millsaps' seven, but committed one
error during the contest.
Haley Hughes and Katelyn Gola had two hits each to lead SU while
the Majors' McKinley had three hits in the game.
Maus garnered the loss for Southwestern to fall to 7-3 on the
year. Millsaps Thibodeau earned the win pitching a complete game to
improve to 9-6 overall.
Game two was much of the same as Millsaps jumped out to an early
lead with three runs in the first and one in the second. This time,
however, the Majors continued to pile on the runs and held the
Pirates at a distance with two, third inning runs and one sixth
inning run. Southwestern was held scoreless until the final inning
in which they were only able to push one across the plate.
Errors once again reared their ugly head for SU as they
committed three in game two.
Blair Wallace had the only multi-hit game in the final contest,
going 2-4. McKinley once again was strong at the plate as she went
3-4.
Solomon received the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year while
Thiobodeau got her second win of the day in game two.
The Pirates return home for the final time this season, hosting
Hendrix College for a four game series beginning on Friday, April
2nd at 1:00 pm.
