JACKSON, Miss. - Southwestern University softball split day one
SCAC action at Millsaps College, falling 5-2 in game one and
winning game two 4-2. The two teams remain deadlocked for first
place in the West with a 4-2 conference record.
Millsaps got on the board early, taking control of the game with
two runs in the first inning and one more in the third. The Pirates
resonded in the fourth with a pair of runs but were unable to build
off the inning and the Majors added two more runs for good measure
in the sixth to win game one 5-2.
Blair Wallace led from the plate for Southwestern, going 2-3
while Kaitlyn Pavlicek recorded two RBI's. Kara Solomon received
the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year while Thibodeau receives the
win for Millsaps to move to 8-6.
Things started out with the same tone in game two as Millsaps
posted two runs in the bottom of the first inning. This time,
however, Southwestern responded well and sooner and pushed two runs
across the plate in the third, one in the fourth and one in the
fifth. Tough SU defense held the Majors scoreless after the opening
frame, allwoing the 4-2 win for the Pirates.
It was a great all-around effort in game two as six Pirates
recorded hits, led by Bre Lewis's 2-2 performance with one run and
one RBI. Lyndsy Maus went the distance to move to 8-2 on the
season. She threw seven innings, allowing five hits, two runs
(earned) while walking none and striking out seven. McAllister
garnered the loss for Millsaps to fall to 2-3 overall.
The two teams will continue their series on Sunday with game one
beginning at noon CST.
