Birdies and pars abounded at the Men's Golf West Regional at
Teravista Golf Club on Tuesday in Round Rock, Texas and
Southwestern's golf team finished in ninth place overall for the
tournament.
First-year Sean
Madera and junior Ricky Jones were the
top finishers for the Pirates tied for 20th at 17 over par with
UMHB's Mike McQuaid. Madera shot a 76 in round three and Jones had
a 78.
Senior Xan
Erwin shot the lowest round of the day for SU with a two over
par 74 and finished tied for 23rd with SU's first year Cody Patrick, who shot
a final round 76, and three other golfers. Senior Tyler Russell rounded
out the Pirate team with a final round 87 for 70th place.
Individually, first-year Zach Sewill finished
tied for 53rd with a final round 81, junior Connor McMindes
ended with a final round 82 and tied for 61st, and first year Cameron
Fanning placed 65th with an 83 in his final round.
The University of LaVerne took first place by seven strokes over
the University of Redlands. Guilford College's Peter Latimer
continued his consistent play with a final round 74 to take first
place overall. Nine golfers shot par our better for the afternoon,
led by UT-Tyler's Spencer Ellis who shot a five under par 67. One
golfer, UMHB's Johnathan Sustaita, hit a hole in one on the 237
yard, par three 15.
The Pirates return to action on April 24th - 26th at the SCAC
Championships in Tunica, MS.
