The Pirates battled the wind and cold conditions on Monday to finish in ninth place at the West Region Invitational on Monday at Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas.
After the opening round of action, the Pirates were in eighth place due to a big round by Ricky Jones who came in tied for third place with a 73 to lead SU. Sean Madera and Xan Erwin posted the best second round for Southwestern, both shooting a 74. Jones came in 17th (T) overall with a 155, Madera 23rd (T) with a 157, Cody Patrick 27th at 158, Xan Erwin 32nd (T) with 160, and Tyler Russell in 65th (T) with 174 strokes.
Overall, SU is just 28 strokes off the lead as a team and just one behind the two teams tied for seventh. Guilford's Peter Latimer is leading the Regional shooting a even par 72 in both rounds. The University of LaVerne leads the team competition with 602 strokes.
The Pirates will look to push towards the top tomorrow with an anticipated beautiful day for golf after the cold temperatures subside.
