Southwestern University's men's golf team ended in sixth place after the first round of the SCAC Championships in Tunica, MS. The Pirates are just 12 strokes off the lead.

Sean Madera led the way for Southwestern with an opening round 76 and is tied for third place with two other golfers. Tyler Russell shot a first round 81 and is tied with four others for 16th place. Ricky Jones is just behind Russell with an 83 while Xan Erwin shot an 84 and Cody Wallace had an 89.

Southwestern continue with round two on Saturday.
