Southwestern men's soccer head coach Don Gregory won his 100th career game on Sunday (Oct. 7) as the Pirates cruised to a 6-0 victory over Hendrix College in Georgetown, TX.
Senior Preston Hollis (Austin, TX/McCallum HS) beat the Warriors' goalie to the bottom left corner of the goal with an assist from Troy Hutchens (Stillwater, OK/Stillwater HS) in the third minute. The scoring continued for the Pirates in the 12th minute when Daniel Webb (Austin, TX/Westlake HS) scored his first goal of the year on a free kick from Nathan Shaw-Meadow (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) to make the score 2-0.
Junior David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) added his fifth goal of the year with an assist from John Yi (San Antonio, TX/Oakland City University) in the 27th minute and less than a minute and a half later Yi hooked up with first-year Alex Keller (Houston, TX/Langham Creek HS) for Keller's second goal of his career and made the score 4-0.
In the second period, SU got a goal from Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Southern Methodist University) with an assist from Nate Ellis (San Antonio, TX/Clark HS) as well as a Ben Hoffman (Houston, TX/Clear Brook HS) goal, assisted by Hollis, in the first two minutes for the 6-0 final.
Gregory, in his 10th season with the Pirates, has compiled a career won-loss record of 100-71-16. The team presented Gregory with an autographed ball at the conclusion of the game.
For the game, the Pirates dominated Hendrix by holding them to just three shots. SU attempted 26 shots and put 18 of them on goal. Southwestern also held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Southwestern returns to action on Friday (Oct. 12) when the team faces Austin College at 4:00 p.m. in Sherman, TX.
