SHERMAN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer secured a dominant win over Austin College scoring all three goals within a five minute period in the second half, 3-0. The win marked a historic moment as the Pirates have won seven straight games. The seven wins are the most since 2001 squad won ten straight. Southwestern concluded non-conference play at 8-1 as they have gone 16-1-3 in the past two seasons out of SAA play.
Sunday's match marks the 31st time the two squads have faced off and the Pirates 22nd win all-time over the Kangeroos. The Pirates entered the match on fire defensively, without conceding a goal since September 6. The starting lineup remained similar as 22 Pirates played today.
The first half was dominated by the Pirates in terms of chances and possession. Goalkeeper
TJ Bass was only forced to make one save in the first half. However, Southwestern could not convert their statistical domination with another slow start on the road in three away matches.
Once again, Southwestern made adjustments at half and opened with a flurry of goals. In the 57th minute, forward
Grey Richards opened up the scoring with an assist from midfielder
Ross Anderson on the corner kick. In the 59th minute, Southwestern struck again when Richards assisted midfielder
Daniel Sartorio. The junior took a touch and riffled a screamer shot into the near post upper 90.
The Kangeroos couldn't stop the Pirates with another goal three minutes later came in 62nd minute. Anderson played a corner into Richards who flicked a ball far post as
Landon Guenther tapped in the goal, firmly securing the game for the Pirates. The squad played soundly defensively, failing to break for a sixth straight game. Southwestern's offense has found timely goals, but the defense allowing four goals in nine games proves to be why the Pirates have reached historic levels heading into SAA play.
