GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer sophomore goalkeeper TJ Bass has been named this week's SAA Defensive Player of the Week. This marks the sophomore's second consecutive week receiving the honor. Bass recorded eight saves and two clean sheets this week, driving the Pirates to another undefeated weekend.

The Pirates continued their winning ways this week, moving to an 8-1 overall after non-conference play. The squad's seven-game winning streak is the longest since 2001 and second longest all-time. Southwestern has not allowed a goal since the University of Lynchburg match, driven largely by the outstanding play of Bass with a .886 save percentage on the year. The goalkeeper made two saves in a low-scoring affair against LeTourneau University on Thursday. More impressively, Bass had a career-high six saves against Austin College on Sunday. 

Bass totaled 31 saves this year, averaging over three per game. Three saves per game is incredibly low with credit to the Pirate back line. Bass has been supported by an outstanding defense, including senior Cooper Pero, junior Amar Singh, junior Chase Johnson, freshman Connor Gritzmacher and many others contributing to the defensive dominance this year. 

Senior Landon Guenther also received votes for SAA Offensive Player of the Week, falling short of the award. However, Guenther's efforts were honor worthy as the senior dominated the midfield and scored two pivotal goals. His 40-yard rocket on Thursday propelled the Pirates past LeTourneau, avoiding the draw and keeping a strong resume heading into conference play.
