Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC Climbs To The Top Of SAA Standings After Home Win Against Berry, 2-1

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Men's Soccer wins the highly-anticipated rematch of the 2025 SAA Championship game on Sunday against Berry College, 2-1. The Pirates move to 11-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 which marks the top spot in the SAA standings.

Last November, Berry stunned the Pirates at Varsity Field to steal a spot in the NCAA Tournament from Southwestern. The Pirates have used that moment as motivation all offseason and kept this game circled at home. The stage was similar on a Sunday afternoon but in a regular season tilt as Berry entered 7-4-2 overall. Nearly every Pirate who played experienced the pain last year as it was evident in the dominant start to the game.

Landon Guenther fired home what seemed to be an early goal on a rocket. However, the goal was called off after Quinn MacLeod was ruled offside and the head linesmen didn't quickly notice. Despite the gut punch call, Southwestern continued to throw punches. In the 22nd minute, Grey Richards flicked in a goal on a cross from Ross Anderson. Richards crashed the near post hard with an incredible header.

One minute later, Richards notched a brace to make it 2-0. Anderson found Danny Wasserman who played it deep as Richards beat the Viking defender to the ball and slotted it past the keeper. Both Anderson and Wasserman collected assists on the play. The possession was controlled convincingly by the Pirates who took a 2-0 lead into half.

However, momentum shifted in the second half as Berry became the aggressors. In the 59th minute, Berry scored on a combination play that resulted in a wide open header. Six cards were passed out in the next 12 minutes as Southwestern's disciplines were Anthony Peacher, Landon Guenther, and Coach Norman. Southwestern found multiple chances on corners in the final 20 minutes, but most importantly kept the Vikings scoreless in a tightly contested win.
