MOUNT BERRY, GEORGIA - Southwestern Women's Track & Field conclude competition at the SAA Outdoor Championships with 60.5 points, finished in sixth among the stacked field. In two days, Southwestern had 14 individual efforts who scored points, along with three podium finishes and two event titles.
Day two was highlighted by senior
Breanna Steele who completed the weekend sweep with a 1,500-Meter title on Saturday. Multiple athletes were seeded within a few seconds of this heat as it was anybody's race. However, Steele's will power was the difference winning the event by one second at 4:40.14, completely emptying the tank. Steele finished the weekend with a conference title in the 3,000-Meter Steeplechase and now the 1,500-Meter event.
Along with her efforts, five different individuals contributed points to the team score on Saturday, along with fifth place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 events.
NOTABLE PERFORMERS
- Southwestern's 4x400 team had an impressive display only two seconds off the school record in fifth place at 4:05.37.
- The team consisted of senior Katelin Pilarski, junior Peyton Moore, sophomore Triniti Gray, and freshman Secilia Salzmann-Ledesma.
- Two Pirate field athletes scored points in stacked field including junior Ella Lewis and sophomore Jaycee Green.
- Lewis placed seventh in the Triple Jump with a distance of 10.91 Meters.
- Green was close to the Shot Put school record with of distance of 10.96 Meters, which ranked sixth for three points to the leaderboard.
- The 4x100 relay team of freshman Emma Sanchez, freshman Victoria Crews, Pilarski, and Lewis were only 0.10 seconds off the school record.
- Pilarski scored points for the leaderboard with a seventh place finish in the 100-Meter dash at 12.46 in another stacked field with top national athletes.
- Gray's highlight was her 400-Meter Hurdle performance which was seconds away from a podium finish at fourth place.
- The sophomore secured five points for the team with a time of 1:07.55.
