MOUNT BERRY, GEORGIA - Southwestern University Men's Track & Field concluded Day One of the SAA Outdoor Championships in a tie for sixth at 13 points. However, the Pirates sprinters were fantastic in the prelims and set to add big points to the standings on Saturday.Â
Friday marked only six events that were scored in field and distance events as junior
Lukas Nowlin and senior
Scott Johnson were the highlights. The duo combined to post 11 points to the leaderboard.Â
Nowlin was lone Pirate podium finish with a third-place Long Jump effort. Nowlin posted a score of 7.14 Meters, adding six points to the leaderboard along with being named All-SAA Honorable Mention in the event. Nowlin now owns podium finishes in three SAA events this year in both Indoor & Outdoor with a chance to add to his total on Saturday.Â
Johnson has emerged as the Pirates top thrower after rejoining the squad for his senior season. The dual-sport athlete placed fourth in the Javelin event with a distance of 50.93 Meters. The senior stepped up in the big moment by surpassing his PR by over three meters and adding five pivotal points to the leaderboard.Â
NOTABLE PERFORMERS
- Freshman Jett Love gave the Pirates two pivotal points in the Long Jump event.
- Love continues to improve with a distance of 6.41 Meters, ranking seventh in the conference after year one.Â
- Sophomore Nathan Jimmie surpassed a PR in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 40.74Â Meters.Â
- The star of the prelims was senior Jalen Joseph in both his sprinting events.Â
- Among four prelim heats, Joseph ranked tied for first with a time of 10.87 in the 100-Meter dash.Â
- The Arlington native did not stop there. Joseph smashed the 200-Meter school record with a time of 21.54.Â
- Joseph finished first in the prelims as a testament of his hard work. On Saturday, Joseph will have the opportunity to compete for both event titles.Â
- Senior Sebastian Loder also qualified to compete for the 200-Meter title on Saturday with a sixth-place overall finish with a time of 22.01.Â
- Freshman Jalen White put himself in the top position to win the 110-Meter Hurdles on Saturday with a first ranked prelim time of 15.02.Â
- Loder also excelled in the 400-Meter dash with a time of 48.94 which ranked third in the prelims with another opportunity to score on Saturday.Â
