Men's T&F Earns 5th At SAA Indoor Championships, Nowlin Named Jumps Athlete Of The Year

DANVILLE, KENTUCKY - Southwestern University Men's Track and Field totaled 41 points in the SAA Championships to garner fifth place among nine tough conference squads.

In a conference filled with the nations top athletes, junior Lukas Nowlin proved he's one of the best jumpers in the country. Nowlin collected the SAA Jumps Athlete of the Year after winning the High Jump title at 2.06 meters, marking the seventh best jump in the nation. Nowlin also placed second in the Long Jump at 7.08 meters. 

TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Sophomore Leo Redding, junior Packard Smith, junior Jackson Herlin, and senior Cade Rosenquist garnered four points in the 4,000M Relay with a time of 10:58.92. The DMR time marked a school record ten seconds. 
  • Freshman Jalen White was a massive contributor on the weekend. White placed fourth in the Triple Jump at 13.41M, absolutely demolishing the school record. 
  • Junior Sergio Cobos was right behind White at 13.40M. Cobos placed fifth while earning improved his personal best in the event by 0.30M. 
  • Senior Michael Roper also added two points to the leaderboard with a seventh place finish in the Triple Jump at 12.61M.
  • The Pirates collected 11 points from the Triple Jump event. 
  • Freshman Jalen White placed fifth in the 60M Hurdles with a time of 8.56, marking another school record. 
  • Junior Jalen Joseph collected a point in the 200M with a time of 23.53. 
  • Nowlin was the highlight with the High Jump title, and falling barely short of winning the Long Jump. 
  • Freshman Juan Gonzalez added a point in the High Jump at 1.80M.

Southwestern shifts to the CenTex Invite at Southwestern University next Saturday as the Pirates also celebrate Senior Day.
