GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University Men's Golf competed and hosted the West Region Invitational on March 31st & April 1st. The tournament consisted of 54-holes over a span of two days, the Pirates played 36 holes on Monday, and 18 on Tuesday. The Pirates ended the West Region Invitational with a 4th place finish out of 9 teams.
The Pirates were led by senior Bryce Stiemert who fired rounds of 75, 72, & 73 (+4) where he finished in T6th place. Behind him with a 10th place finish was sophomore Sam McClure who shot rounds of 74, 74, & 73 (+5). Next in T12th place was senior Matthew Peesker who finished with rounds of 76, 76, & 70 (+6) after him was sophomore Ricky Mitchell who shot 79, 72, & 75 (+10) putting him in T19th place. Also finishing in T19th place was freshman Tyler Rosson with rounds of 79, 76, & 71 (+10). Following him in 24th place was freshman William Suell who fired shots of 77, 73, & 78 (+12). Next for the Pirates was junior Ethan Bridges who finished in T35th place after shooting rounds of 81, 79, & 78 (+22). Sophomore Logan Cameron came in 37th place after rounds of 83, 80, & 76 (+23). Finishing in 48th place and rounding out the Pirates was junior Santiago Cuevas with rounds of 85, 83, & 87 (+39).
Southwestern men collected a total of one hundred and sixty two pars, while also collecting thirty nine birdies. The Pirates finished in second within the field in par 3's playing them at 3.13 (+8) for the tournament. Stiemert led the Pirates throughout the tournament in par 3's and par 4's playing them at -2 and -1. McClure led the Pirates in par 5's playing them 4.75 (-3) for the tournament. Peesker had eleven out of the thirty nine birdies collected by the team.Â
