Southwestern University is mourning the loss of a former student athlete. We are deeply saddened by the death of Jaelynn Stewart.Â
Jaelynn Stewart was a key member of the Track & Field team throughout her time here at Southwestern. Stewart was the 2019 SCAC Track & Field Women's Shot Put Champion and still currently holds the record for women's outdoor shot put here on campus.
"Jaelynn was a wonderful person, a talented athlete, and someone who always cared for others," said former Head Track and Field Coach Andrew Diehl. "My heart goes out to her family. May she rest in peace and may her family find comfort in the joy and happiness she brought to everyone she met."
"Jaelynn had an amazing spirit and energy she brought to her life and those around her. I'm grateful to have been a small part of her story," said Kenneth Eboh, Southwestern University Head Track and Field Coach.Â
A candlelight vigil will be held at 7 p.m in her hometown of New Caney, Texas on Thursday evening (April 10). Our thoughts and prayers will be with Jaelynn's family, friends, and all who knew her.
