April 24, 2009

Box Score

San Antonio, Texas - Southwestern University's softball team fell in their first SCAC Conference Tournament game on Friday to Hendrix 4-3. The Pirates face Millsaps on Saturday in the loser's bracket to begin their run to the championship game.

Hendrix (22-18) got on the board early, scoring one run in the top of the first inning with two outs. Southwestern evened the score in the second when 1B Kat Hoover scored on a Hendrix error. The Warriors scored two more in the fourth on a couple of hits and errors, but the Pirates pulled even again in the bottom half when CF Taylor Turpin's in the park home run also brought in Hoover.

With the game tied at three, Hendrix scored a run in the fifth to break the tie - a run that turned out to be the game-winner and Southwestern was unable to score runners in the following innings.

Hendrix pitcher Elizabeth Vaughan improved to 12-3 with her second complete-game win of the day. Hanna Braden was 2-3 for the Warriors, while Sara Hunter drove in a pair of runs.
