GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader to No. 9 nationally ranked East Texas Baptist University on March 1, falling 3–2 in game one and 10–6 in game two.
Facing one of the nation's top programs, the Pirates battled throughout the afternoon, holding late leads and producing timely offense but ultimately could not hold off the Tigers' late rallies.
GAME 1 – East Texas Baptist 3, Southwestern 2
Southwestern struck first in the second inning when Tauryn Alexander launched a two-run home run to left field, scoring Allie Fields and giving the Pirates an early 2–0 advantage.
The Pirates held the lead behind a strong outing from Sophia Ytuarte in the circle, who kept East Texas Baptist off the board through four innings. The Tigers broke through in the fifth, scoring an unearned run after a stolen base and defensive miscue cut the Southwestern lead to 2–1.
East Texas Baptist completed the comeback in the seventh inning, tying the game on an RBI single before plating the go-ahead run later in the frame on another unearned tally to secure the 3–2 victory.
Ytuarte was tagged with the loss despite allowing no earned runs across a complete-game effort.

GAME 2 – East Texas Baptist 10, Southwestern 6
East Texas Baptist took an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning before extending the advantage with a three-run homer in the second.
Southwestern responded immediately in the bottom half of the second inning. Mattie Wilkie sparked the rally with a two-run triple, Logan Kieselhorst followed with an RBI single, and Calle Collier added an RBI double to even the game at 4–4.
The Tigers regained control in the third inning with three runs to move back in front, but Southwestern continued to battle. RBI doubles from Julyssa Hernandez and Allie Fields in the fourth inning trimmed the deficit to 7–6.
East Texas Baptist added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away and secure the 10–6 win.
