GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The Southwestern University men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead on Tuesday and never looked back as the Pirates took down McMurry 3-0 at Varsity Field to open the 2026 season. The win moves Southwestern to 1-0.Â

The Pirates have now won four straight season openers and have held opponents scoreless in three of those matches.Â

While both teams came out of the gate aggressive, McMurry committed two early fouls that allowed two free kicks for Southwestern in the first three minutes of the half.
Danny Wasserman got the scoring started with a free kick at the 02:40 mark, followed by a second free kick goal at the 02:47 mark.Â

SU took an early 3-0 lead as Landon Guenther found the back of the net with an assist from Ross Anderson (21:49). The Pirates outshot McMurry 5-3 in the first half. Â

Both sides had several good looks in the second half as the Pirates outshot the Warhawks 11-4.Â
