GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Women's Soccer were dominant once again on Friday night in the win over University of Dallas at home, 3-1. The Pirates are off to their best since 2021 when they won six straight games to start the year. The squad improves to 2-0-2 four matches into the year.
The Pirates offense has come alive, scoring six goals in the past two games. All three goals on Friday night came on screamers from outside of the box on incredible individual efforts. Southwestern's goal scorers were
Matti Penders,
Iris McCain, and
Mia Morales.
The game was pushed back 40 minutes due to inclement weather, but the Pirates came out with the energy and attention to detail knocking on the door all night. In the 26th minute, Penders scored an unbelievable goal where she beat a defender and fired from 30 yards out. The junior captain is no stranger to heroic goals as she scored from half field last season.
Right before half, McCain registered her first career goal as a freshman on another rocket from 30 yards outside. McCain has been one of many freshman who have elevated their play as the games progress and Head Coach
Linda Hamilton has rewarded them. In the second half, Morales collected a pass, took two dribbles, and fired a goal from 20 yards out as the Pirates took a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Pirates found multiple additional chances closer to the goal, but the incredible efforts from distance have been the story for the Pirates the past two games. Dallas scored in the 56th minute as the Pirates defensive scoreless streak finally ended 326 minutes into the season.
