GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The Southwestern University Pirates softball team wrapped up the regular season, falling to Millsaps College 4–3 in a tightly contested finale. Despite a late push from the Pirates, the Majors held on to secure the one-run victory.Â
GAME 3 – Millsaps 4, Southwestern 3Â
Southwestern and Millsaps battled through a back-and-forth contest before a pivotal fifth inning by the Majors proved to be the difference.
Millsaps opened the scoring in the first inning, taking advantage of a wild pitch to grab a 1–0 lead. The Pirates answered in the fifth, as Daniella Clark delivered a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Calle Collier to score and even the game at 1–1.
The Majors responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run surge. Ella Morgan Sears drove in a run with a single to left field, and Allana Vasquez followed with a two-RBI single down the right field line to extend the Millsaps lead to 4–1.
Southwestern made things interesting in the seventh inning with a late rally. Clark came through once again, lacing a two-out single through the right side that brought home Logan Kieselhorst and Collier to cut the deficit to 4–3. The Pirates threatened, but were unable to push across the tying run.
