Southwestern Secures Statement Win Over Oglethorpe

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on Sunday, April 5, defeating Oglethorpe University by a final score of 6-1. The Pirates controlled the match from the outset, sweeping two of three doubles courts and carrying that momentum into singles play with five decisive victories.

Southwestern set the tone early by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. At the top spot, Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke rolled to a 6-0 victory over Taylor Glover and Geianah Thomas. Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan followed suit at No. 2 doubles, earning another 6-0 win against Apsana Rai and Grace Elsevier. Oglethorpe claimed the No. 3 doubles court by default.

In singles action, the Pirates were nearly flawless, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Cepeda led the charge at No. 1 singles with a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory over Glover. Locke was equally impressive at No. 2, blanking Thomas 6-0, 6-0. Duncan continued the dominant trend at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Elsevier.

Katia Childs secured another point at No. 4 singles, defeating Rai 6-0, 6-0, while Powell cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Luisa Gorgoll at No. 5. Oglethorpe picked up its lone point at No. 6 singles by default.

With the win, the Pirates continue to build momentum in conference play with an impressive all-around performance on both sides of the lineup.

  • Southwestern will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Jackson, Mississippi, to take on Millsaps College on April 11.
