Southwestern Cruises to 7-0 Shutout Over Millsaps

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS — The Southwestern University women's tennis team delivered a flawless performance on Saturday, April 11, shutting out Millsaps College 7-0 in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Pirates opened the match in dominant fashion, sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, Isa Cepeda and Daryl Locke set the tone with a decisive 6-0 victory over Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks. Addison Powell and Kimberly Duncan matched that effort at No. 2 doubles, earning a 6-0 win against Bella-Bennett Graham and Virginia Trible. Southwestern secured the third doubles match by forfeit at No. 3, as Lilly Perkins and Katia Childs were awarded the win.

Carrying a 1-0 lead into singles play, the Pirates continued their commanding performance, winning all six matches without dropping a set. At the top of the lineup, Isa Cepeda earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Riley McClain at No. 1 singles. Daryl Locke followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against Malakie Smith.

Kimberly Duncan added another point at No. 3 singles, defeating Skylar Spinks 6-2, 6-2, while Katia Childs was nearly perfect at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bella-Bennett Graham. Addison Powell mirrored that performance at No. 5 singles, blanking Virginia Trible 6-0, 6-0. Lilly Perkins completed the sweep at No. 6 singles with a win by forfeit.

With the victory, Southwestern showcased its depth and control throughout the lineup, securing a convincing 7-0 road win over the Majors.
