GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team delivered a strong showing in SAA action on Saturday at Taylor-Sanders Field, sweeping Centre College in a doubleheader. The Pirates claimed a 4-2 victory in game one before edging out a 1-0 win in game two, improving to 9-6 in conference play and moving into third place in the standings.Â
GAME 1 – Southwestern 4, Centre 2
Southwestern wasted no time taking control of the opener, putting together a three-run first inning that ultimately proved to be the difference. Daniella Clark opened the scoring with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home Allie Fields. Moments later, Macey Gilman delivered a clutch double to right field, driving in two more runs to give the Pirates an early 3-0 advantage.
Centre chipped away at the lead with a run in the second inning and added another in the sixth to make it a one-run game. The Pirates responded in the bottom half of the sixth, as Calle Collier came through with an RBI single to score Tara Archibald and provide a key insurance run. Southwestern held firm defensively in the seventh to secure the 4-2 win.

The second game featured a tight pitching battle, with Southwestern pushing across the lone run in the opening inning and relying on dominant work in the circle to finish the sweep.
The Pirates capitalized early as Macey Gilman drove in Allie Fields with a single through the left side to make it 1-0. That would be all the offense needed, as Southwestern's pitching and defense kept Centre off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
