GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The Southwestern University Pirates softball team closed out a dominant weekend at Taylor-Sanders Field on Sunday afternoon, defeating Centre College 5–1 to complete the three-game conference sweep. The Pirates used a late offensive breakout and strong pitching in relief to secure the series finale.
GAME 3 –Southwestern 5, Centre 1
Southwestern and Centre traded momentum early before the Pirates pulled away with a decisive sixth inning to lock in the win.
The Pirates opened the scoring in the first inning, as Daniella Clark brought home Allie Fields with an RBI groundout to take a 1–0 lead. Centre responded in the third inning with an RBI single to even the score at 1–1.
Both teams were held in check through the middle innings before Southwestern broke through in the sixth. Calle Collier sparked the rally with an RBI single up the middle to give the Pirates the lead. Daniella Clark followed with another RBI knock, extending the advantage to 3–1. Moments later, Macey Gilman delivered the biggest hit of the day, driving a double to right center that plated two runs and stretched the lead to 5–1.
Southwestern's pitching staff shut the door from there, holding Centre scoreless over the final innings to secure the sweep.
