GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team faced a tough test on Saturday, April 18th, taking on No. 12 University of Mary Washington. The Pirates battled throughout the lineup but ultimately fell 6-1 in the non-conference matchup.
In doubles play, the #1 pairing of Christo Langford and Joseph Snyman was locked in a tight contest at 5-5 against Evan Fisher and Jack Riordan before the match went unfinished. Mary Washington secured the doubles point with wins at the #2 and #3 positions. Bernie Clemente and Parth Patel dropped a 7-5 decision to Ryan Battaglia and Ryan Gipner at #2, while Ashton Ellis and Landon Sosebee fell 6-3 to Cooper Lehman and Trevor Rein at #3.
In singles action, the Pirates' lone point came from Parth Patel at the #4 spot. Patel delivered a strong performance, defeating Ryan Gipner in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5.
At #1 singles, Bernie Clemente fell to Asher Willenborg 6-3, 6-3, while Porter Arens dropped his #2 match 6-3, 6-0 to Trevor Rein. Ashton Ellis pushed his #3 match to three sets, bouncing back after a first-set loss before ultimately falling 6-0, 1-6, 6-3 to Jack Riordan.
Nolan Alvarez also forced a third set at #5, earning a first-set win before Battaglia rallied to take the match 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-0(14-12). At #6, Rylan Hastings fell 6-3, 6-3 to Cooper Lehman.
