GEORGETOWN, TEXAS – The Southwestern University Pirates softball delivered a thrilling Senior Day victory on Saturday afternoon, walking off the Trinity University Tigers softball 5–4. With the win, the Pirates celebrated six seniors in unforgettable fashion, using a three-run seventh inning to secure the comeback.
GAME 3 –Southwestern 5, Trinity 4
Southwestern battled all afternoon before erupting late to complete the walk-off win.
The Pirates struck first in the opening inning, as Macey Gilman delivered an RBI single to bring home Calle Collier for a 1–0 lead. Trinity answered in the second inning with an RBI single to even the score at 1–1.
After several quiet innings, Southwestern regained the advantage in the fifth. Collier came through with an RBI double to center field, scoring Aryana Dunkelberger and putting the Pirates ahead 2–1.
Trinity mounted a late rally in the seventh inning, capitalizing on Pirate miscues to score three unearned runs and take a 4–2 lead heading into the bottom half.
Southwestern refused to let Senior Day slip away. Dunkelberger came around to score on a Trinity error, cutting the deficit to 4–3. Moments later, Izabella Hernandez delivered the game-winning swing, lining a two-RBI single to right field to score Allie Fields and Collier, sealing the 5–4 walk-off victory.
