GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University softball team battled through a tough SAA doubleheader against Trinity University on Friday at Taylor-Sanders Field. The Pirates fell 8-3 in game one and 9-4 in game two, dropping the conference series and moving to 5-6 in SAA play.
GAME 1 – Trinity 8, Southwestern 3
Southwestern showed resilience throughout the opener, answering multiple Trinity rallies and continuing to battle at the plate. After the Tigers opened the game with a solo home run in the first inning, the Pirates responded in the second when Logan Kieselhorst delivered an RBI single to bring in Kaydence Garza and even the score at 1-1.
The Pirates continued to respond under pressure in the fourth inning. Trailing 6-1, Southwestern strung together productive at-bats as Calle Collier and Macey Gilman each drove in runs with RBI singles, trimming the deficit to 6-3 and keeping momentum within reach.
Despite late insurance runs from Trinity in the seventh, the Pirates continued to compete offensively through the final inning.

GAME 2 – Trinity 9, Southwestern 4
Southwestern came out strong in game two, building an early lead and setting the tone offensively through the middle innings. The Pirates struck first in the third inning when Emery Bell lined an RBI single up the middle to score Aryana Dunkelberger, giving Southwestern a 1-0 advantage.
The Pirates kept the pressure on in the fourth inning, capitalizing on patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning. Aryana Dunkelberger drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run, and a passed ball later in the frame allowed Kaydence Garza to score, pushing the lead to 3-0.
Trinity answered with a big fifth inning to regain the lead, but Southwestern continued to fight back late. In the seventh, Macey Gilman delivered an RBI double down the left-field line to bring in Emery Bell and close the game on a strong offensive note.
