GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University Baseball failed to tame the Trinity University offense on Friday in the doubleheader. The Pirates fell in game one 12-6, before also dropping game two, 12-7. The Pirates move to 2-8 in the SAA standings.
GAME 1
The series moved to a doubleheader on Friday with a single game on Saturday due to rain. Trinity entered 16-11 overall, but were ranked first in the nation only a month ago. Freshman
Zane Heiliger received another game one start after his seven inning performance last weekend. However, the Pirates allowed the five first runs from the Tigers before senior
Tres Organ singled to cut the deficit to 5-3 after three innings.
The Pirates crept closer before the Tigers extended the deficit to 11-4. Senior
Connor Duffey swatted his fifth home run of the year in the sixth. Junior
Nolan Yeager helped keep the Tigers to one run in the final three innings, but the Pirates couldn't claw enough runs to comeback, falling 12-6.
GAME 2
Southwestern made a late charge, but the Tigers took an early 10-1 lead after five innings which was too steep. Junior
Cale Cochran smashed his first home run in the fifth. Sophomore
Chase Adams plated three with a home run that helped the Pirates pull within 10-6, scoring six unanswered.
The Tigers countered with two runs after senior
Max Pougnet gave the Pirates two scoreless innings of relief. Adams went deep again in the ninth for his first career multi-homer game. However, the Tigers closer entered to shut the door.
