GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern University men's tennis team remained unbeaten on the season, defeating Hope College on Saturday at home to improve to 6–0 overall.
The Pirates secured the doubles point by winning two of the three matches to open the afternoon. At No. 1 doubles, Landon Sosebee and Ashton Ellis defeated Cooper Nugent and Alec Maynard 6–4 to give Southwestern an early edge. The Dutchmen responded with a win at No. 2 doubles as Elliot Dozeman and Blake Smith topped Joseph Snyman and Porter Arens 6–4.
The decisive match came at No. 3 doubles where Bernie Clemente and Sebastian Herrera delivered a 6–4 victory over Owen Jackson and Ned Curley to clinch the doubles point for the Pirates.
Southwestern carried that momentum into singles play, winning four of the six matches.
At No. 1 singles, Nathan Qi battled through a tight opening set before securing a 7–6, 6–4 win over Nugent. Porter Arens fought back after dropping the first set at No. 3 singles, rallying for a 3–6, 6–4, 7–6 victory against Karsten Patel.
Bernie Clemente added another point for the Pirates with a 7–5, 6–1 win over Blake Smith at No. 4 singles, while Hai Vo earned a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles, defeating Rylan Doden 6–3, 6–2.
Hope College picked up singles wins at No. 2 and No. 6, but Southwestern's depth proved enough to secure the overall team victory.
